John Dower House shortlisted for Housing Design Awards

John Dower House – Proctor and Matthews’ new housing scheme for older people in Cheltenham – has been shortlisted in the 2016 Housing Design Awards.

John Dower House is a 68-unit residential scheme, designed for PegasusLife, that facilitates independent retirement living on an urban site in the town. It includes the restoration of a Grade II listed 1820s building, and improves the neighbourhood public realm by creating a new pedestrian route through the site, linking the development with local amenities. A courtyard at the centre of the scheme creates a visual focus and a tranquil space for residents and visitors.

In 2014, Proctor and Matthews Architects received the Supreme Award at the Housing Design Awards for Abode at Great Kneighton.
