RIBA Awards 2019

Steepleton, our Later Living community integrated into the Cotswolds market town of Tetbury and the second phase of our award-winning scheme Abode at Great Kneighton in Cambridge have both been shortlisted for RIBA Regional Awards.

Comprising of 113 Later Living one and two bed apartments and communal facilities, Steepleton has been carefully conceived to allow older people to live independently for longer in their own homes. The design aims to foster a strong sense of neighbourliness and support, and to integrate residents into their wider community. The layout is a contemporary interpretation of historic farmsteads and almshouses within the Cotswolds AONB, with buildings clustered around a series of open courtyards and surrounded by gardens and allotments.

The completion phase of the Abode Great Kneighton quarter provides news 136 homes (including 40% tenure blind affordable dwellings) arranged as a series of squares, streets and mews. The development incorporates a range of new courtyard dwelling typologies which side-step the conventional suburban model of front and back gardens and creates a new focus at the heart of each home: an external room with extended seasonal use.

The award winners will be announced at presentation ceremonies in May.
