Chapter House wins a HAPPI Award at Housing Design Awards

Chapter House - an innovative housing development for older people in Lichfield - has won a HAPPI Award at the 2018 Housing Design Awards.

The Housing Design Awards are the leading awards programme for housing design in the UK. The awards seek to reward best practice in the housing sector and set strong standards for housing design with support from central government, local authorities, housing companies and the architecture profession.

Chapter House provides 38 one and two bedroom apartments alongside high quality communal facilities for older people, and is one of a number of similar projects designed by Proctor and Matthews Architects for PegasusLife. The design was strongly influenced by historic buildings and gardens in Lichfield, and is arranged as a series of courtyards and cloisters that not only reference a medieval friary that once stood on the site, but also provide a comfortable, friendly and accessible environment for Chapter House’s residents. Open space and connections with the local community are important factors in the design: as well as new gardens and courtyards, the the development is connected to to a historic walled garden that is tended by the residents and other local people.

Stephen Proctor, director at Proctor and Matthews Architects said:

“We are delighted that Chapter House has been recognised by the Housing Design Awards. We are very proud of this successful development, and we already know how popular Chapter House is with its residents. It’s very important to ensure that older generations have access to high quality new housing that meets their needs, and it has been very rewarding to work alongside PegasusLife who, like us, are committed to bringing good design to all members of society.”

Steepleton, our latest development for PegasusLife – a Later Living complex in Tetbury, Gloucestershire – will be completing later this summer.
